How is it that we can not understand that there is a catastrophe that will inevitably consume us without our immediate intervention? It’s coming whether we are prepared for it or not, written into the very story we call history. As our population increases at an alarming rate we will be faced with more and more problems regarding food, shelter, energy, economics, waste management, natural resources, politics, poverty, class warfare, etc. All human problems will increase when there are more humans to have them. Even the planet that allows us to be alive is crippling under the weight of our negligence.
Is there even a possibility of shocking the mass consciousness out of it’s slumber? Or will we all quietly slip into death, as if it was a dream displayed on the backs of our closed eyelids? A hyper-real retinal circus, much like the simulated existence we find ourselves so enchanted with. The Real has fallen so far out of our view that we must ask ourselves, what is real? Certainly not the map we’ve been so consistently detailing since the beginning of history. We’ve forgotten the territory and when it’s finally succumbed to our neglect we will find that we can not live in the map anymore when it is just a simulation. A simulacra is not enough to sustain our existence. We can copy all we want, but if we loose the original, each copy will degrade in value until there is nothing left but a blurred picture of what once could have been.
